Thank God for Cell Phones!
Earlier today I was walking down the hallway at work. I looked up and saw someone I really didn't want to talk to. You know the type, very negative and talkative. Thank God I had my cell phone!
I quickly acted like my phone was vibrating, which would indicate I had an incoming call. I pulled the phone up to my ear and gave a polite wave as I walked on by. WHEW! The really interesting part was that I had to actually pretend to have a conversation.
"Hello, this is Dan," I said as I continued my brisk walk down the hall. "Weelllll, how are you doing?" I said to nobody at all. "Really, both arms? How do you go the restroom then?" a quick glance back revealed that I had evaded the person in question.
I like to use this trick at the airport too. Whenever I see someone looking for directions, or wondering which row they had called for boarding. I have been tempted to start using this during my bathroom breaks. Many of my co-workers have recently decided it is OK to talk while you are standing at the urinal. I should see if I can find a website devoted to proper bathroom etiquette.
